Sa tige eft droite, haute de deux pieds, glabre,
& point piquante, de même que les autres
parties. • Ses feuilles font ianceplees , tout-à-faic
décurrentes, pinnatifides , decoupees en forme de,
peigne , à divifions lancéolées , entières, un peu.
ciliées , terminées par une fpinule, & munies d’une
petite dent réfléchie à leur baie antérieure. Les
pédoncules font longs, terminaux, uniflores, un
peu cotonneux, 8c prefque nuds. Les fleurs font
purpurines, delà grandeur de celles de laBar-
dahe , & ont les écailles de leur calice linéaires
& ouvertes. Linné ignore fon lieu natal ; mais elle
eft venue de femences qui fe trouvoient parmi
d’autres apportées de laPenfylvanie. <3*.

Cette plante varie beaucoup , dit Haller, 8c en
effet, les individus des herbiers que nous croyons
pouvoir rapporter à cette efpèce, font différens
entr’eux , quoiqu'ils fe conviennent par les principaux
caractères. Souvent fa tige eft fimple y
uniflore, & ma qu’un pied de hauteur ; fouvent
aufii elle s’élève! à un pied 8c demi ou davantage ,
& fe divife en quelques rameaux dans fa partie
fupérieure. . Dans fes différens cas , la tige, les
feuilles 8é les calices font glabres ; les feuilles
font décurrentes, étroites-lancéolées , un peu découpées',
à dents aiguës, & garnies de cils épineux.
Les pédoncules font nuds , fort longs , uni-
flores , 8c un peu cotonneux vers leur fommet.
Les fleurs font purpurines , & fouvent pendantes
dans le tems de leur fécondation. On trouve ce
Chardon dans l’Autriche , la Suîffe , 8c les Provinces

Ce Chardon femble avoir de grands rapports
avec Tefpèce précédente ; mais fes feuilles font
velues en deffous, plus larges & plus découpées.
Sa tige eft fimple , aîlée , 8c haute d’un pied &
demi ; elle fe termine par un long pédoncule nud ,
cotonneux 8c uniflore. La fleur eft penchée , purpurine
, & a fes écailles calicinales fétacées ,
lâches , & à pointe ouverte ou réfléchie. Les
feuilles font décurrentes , • ovales-lancéolées , pinnatifides
, vertes & glabres en deffus , à pinnules
découpées comme dans le Chardon tubéreux %
; & bordées de fpinules nombreufes, On trouve
cette plante dans les Pyrénées.
