Cet .arbriffeau pouffe de fa racine un tr.onc de
quatre à cinq pieds de hauteur , fur deux ou trois
pouces de diamètre : l'on écorce eft ridée & gercée
, & fon bois eft blanchâtre. A mefure qu’il
fe prolonge, il jette à droite & à gauche des branches
farmenteules, rameufes & noueules, qui fè
•.roulent , s’étendent fur les troncs 8c fur les branches
des arbres voifiris. Elles , font .garnies à chaque
noeud d’une couple de; feuilles oppofées ,
pétiolées, ovales , acuminées, très-entières, vertes
ën deffus , d’un verd pâle ën deffous-, 8c chargées
de quelques poils courts , couchés, & attachés
par leur partie moyenne. Leur petiole eft
•accompagné à fa naiffance de.deux petites ftipules
qui tombent: de bonne heure. Les fleurs font
jaunes, axillaires & difpofées en petites grappes
çorymbiformes. Leur fruit eft compofé de trois
capfules monofpermes , terminées chacune par
une aîle mince , large & membraneufè. Cet arbriffeau
croît dans la Guiane, 8c fe trouve fur les
arbres qui entourent les favanes 8c les terrekis

I.e tronc de cet arbriffeau s’élève à la hauteur
de cinq à fix pieds , fur environ quatre pouces do
diamètre. Son écorce eft rouffeâtre, gercée 8c
ridée , & fon bois èft rougeâtre. A mefure que
le tronc fe prolonge , il jette à droite 8c a gauche
de longues branches farmenteufès , qui fè roulent
& fe répandent fur le tronc 8c les branches des
arbres voifins. Elles font garnies a chaque noeud de
deux feuilles oppofées Û ovales, très - entières ,
pointues , pétidléçs , vertes en deffus , rouffeâtres
en deffous, 8c chargées des deux côtés de très-*
petits poils couchés 8c attachés par leur milieu.
Ces poils font plus abondans fur la furface inférieure
des. feuilles, qu’ils couvrent entièrement.
Les jeunes rameaux 8c les pétioles font couverts
de poils rouffeâtres. Il naît à la bafe de chaque
pétiole , deux petites ftipules aufîi rouffeâtres &
caduques. Les fleurs font jaunes & difpofées.dans
lès aiffelles des feuilles en petits corymbes pref-
qu’ombelliformes. Leur fruit eft compofé de trois
capfules monofpermes, droites , 8c terminées chacune
par une aîle longue 8c obtufè. Cette plante
croît dans la.: Guiane , au bord des forêts .qui entourent
les favanes & les terreins défrichés.,.

Cette efpèce forme un arbre remarquable par
la beauté de fes feuilles , qui ont de la reffemblance
avec Celles du Caimitier. Ses rameaux font droits ,
d’un roux pâle, & parfemés de petits points ver-
ruqueux 8c blanchâtres. Ils font munis de feuilles
