Der Attas ist bisher litterarisch noch nicht bekannt geworden nnd fehlt anch in den°Stndi
von Uzielli-Amat. Auf dem A'orderblatt heisst es : Ex Bihlioteca Benedict. XIV. P.P. Anf
dem ersten Blatt ist ein Wappen gezeichnet: viergcteiltes Feld. Auf dem Mittelbalkeu
Papstkroue, Sclilüssel und weisser Adler im blauen Felde; in den anderen Feldern wechselseilig:
drei goldene Lilien und ein schwarzer Doppeladler. Darüber attf einem von Jungfrauen
gehaltenen Band heisst es Alfmi. IL diix. V. Es ist das AVajipen der E s t e . A'gl.
hierzu Litta. tom. III. Her Atlas ist also Alfons von Este gewidmet. Dieser lebte von
1533 bis 1597. Er wurde Herzog im J ahr 1559. .Alithin kann unser Atlas nur in der
Zwi.schenzeit von 1559 und 1597 gemacht sein. — Der Atlas umfasst 20 Karten und ist das
i'ollständigste Exem])lar. welches mir \-on diesem Kartographen zu Gesicht gekommen. Die
von ihm erhaltenen Ka r t enwe rke , welche er fabrikmässig in Gros s - , Slittel- und Klein-
Format herstellte, tuid die meist schon am Einband (bratines Leder mit Goldverzierungen)
kenntlich sind, sind zahllos. Die von Uzielli-.Amat und Harrisse (Cabot) gegebenen A'er-

.Anzahl von .Atlanten, die bisher als .Anonyma gegolten hatten, als AA'erke Agnese's zu erkennen.
Auch die Handschriften-Abteilung der Königl. Bibliotliek zu Berlin besitzt zwei
(anonyme) Exemplare von -Agnese.

Bald hat .Agnese die Kontinental-A'erbindung zwischen .Asien und-Amerika eingetragen, bald
nicht. — In Knnstinann's Atlas rühren Tafel 6 tuid 7 ebenfalls von Batt. .Agnese her. Auf
Tafel 6 ist die A'erbindung nicht dargestellt.
