 us;  and we  had  light  airs  from  the  eaftward,  which

 and  flood  to  the* North:  and  at 5-A. Mb  wé  faw  an  
 ifland  bearing  N.  by E . ;  and  the  north  extreme  of  
 .  Infoo,  S. 72° E l  feven or eight leagues.  At  noon  the  
 wind increafed; with cloudy weather r  Tinio-fhee Peak,  
 S.  8? E; twelve leagues';  Tu-ftieey S. 2° to  12° W .;  -the  
 north  extreme  of  the-ifland  of  Infoo,  juft  vififile,  
 S.  50ö E .;  and in  the  direction o f N* 60° E>. we  juft  
 difeerned more land :  ifland  to  the  North,  N. 13® E.  
 1  make  the  latitude  of  the  N. W.  point  óf  Infoo  
 45° 25' N.j.  and  the longitude  141° 2-7' E .;  leaving between  
 it  and the difeovered  land  ah  extenfive  ftraif,  
 which the wind prevented our entering. 
 To  the South  of. what is  fuppofed  to  be the  N.;W.  
 point  of  Infoo,  between  45° :15'N.  and 45°|  N.,  #e  
 could  not  diftinguilb  the eoaft.  It  is  therefore  probable  
 this  may  be  only  an ifland;  and  the  Japanefe  
 chart  feems  to  confirm it.  The  wind  prevented  me  
 clearing  up this  point.  Thefe remarks  are  fioce

 being to the North. 
 At  half  paft,  the  hfew  land  fet  at  noon  extended  -CHAP,  
 from  N .  -3S?  E.  to  S.  8 5 °  E. ;  centre« of  North  Ifland,  —--— ’  
 Tdno-fhter S.  8° W. ;  Tadhee,  S.  20° W.  se p S e r  
 about twelve  leagues.  *

 S.  '6§°  E.  fix  leagues.';  ;North  Ifland,  N. W.  four  
 leagues.;  By  noon  we' whre uvithin  nii-les  of the 
 land,  when  it* extended-from  N. |   E.-fo  S., 20° E.  
 eight  or  ten  leagues,  the  fouth  extreme °  the:  ifland, 
 S.  64°  W.  to  .S.  70° W,  fix  or .feyeifi  leagues.  Very  
 pleafant  weather,  and  a  ,ftêady  .-wind.'  -  As  the  Jâ-  
 panéfe,  in  tneïr chart,  make  an extenfi^,ifland.-to  the  
 Nerth of Infoo,  I  conjeétured this to  be the fame  land. 
 The  fouthein  part  of it  is rather  high,  but  in general  
 very.imoderate. in  elevation.  I  place  the  fouth part  
 in Abf-;  N\ latitude;dand'  141°: A7f alkdongitude;. I-The
