 Light  breezes and cloudy  weather,  with  fhowers of  
 rain and frequent  thunder  mid  lightning,  which  ren-  
 dered  our  fituation  truly  uncomfortable  from  the  
 numbers  obliged  to  be  upon  deck;  and  below,  the  
 heat was exceffive. 
 12 h.  Light airs and variable, with inceffant rain. 
 24 h.  Squally weather,  with fhowers of rain.  - 
 Heavy  fliowers  of rain,  which  brought  the  wind  
 round to the weftward,  and we fleered S. S. W. 
 7 h.  Took the boats in tow as ufual for the night.

 At 22 h. we faw  the  ifland of Tobago,  fituated near  
 Formofa,  bearing  N. 75° W .;  and  at  23 k   30 m.  we  
 made  Botol  Tobago  Xima,  bearing  S.  34°  W.  At 
 noon 
 noon  the  former  extended  from  % 6 5 °  W.  to  If.  CHAP.  
 75* W;,  and  the  latter  from  W.  tp  S-3Q° W.

 latitude of it, when-we .fleeced South, not intending to  
 pafs between Formofa and  the Vele Reté rodSs. :  The  
 night was cloudy, with rain. 
 13 h.  At  daylight  we  had  run  25  miles, when  to  
 our great  furprize,-the fonth point of Formofa  bore  of  
 ns  S. W.  by W.  four  or  five  leagues;  and  qt noon  
 after  running  S. W.  21  miles,  it  was  ftill  three  
 leagues in  the  direction  of  S.  40p W.  . Towards, noon  
 the  wind  moderated,  and  we  cbuld  make  no  way  
 againft  the  northerly  current^, ,, which  occafioned  a  
 eonfufed  againft  the  wind.  Botol  Tobago  Xima  
 extended from  N.  84° E , tov S,-8S°  E.*  and.the north  
 extreme  of Formofe  N:  10°  E.  Mo  foundings  three  
 miles off fhore. 
 Light  airs and cloudy weather harried  us  infënfibly  sothi^
