of maceration. In tlie centre the laciniæ are convex and subrugose.
TJie apothecia are numerous, chieüy central, becoming somewhat large
and flexuose. The spermogones are abundant, black, irregularly scattered
over the .surface of the thallus, with spermatia 0,005-6 mm. long, about
0,001 mm. thick.

Closely allied to P. conspersa, hut distinguished by tbe frequent presence
of scattered soredia and by being much smaller in all its parts, though tho
individual plants sometimes become confluent. Tbe thallus is frequently
greyish or dark in the subcrustaceous centre, and the laciniæ are occasionally
more discrete at the circumference. The apothecia, which are
rare in this country, as elsewhere, are few and scattered. I lie spermogones,
which are riot frequent, are very minute_, brownish-black, with
straight, short, subcylindrical spermatia, 0,005-0 mm. long, about
0,001 mm. thick.
