Not observed since the time of Withering ; gregarious, cæspitose, or imbricated.
Stem distinct, attenuated upwatds, 2-4 lines long, 1 line and more
thick, at first ascending, then horizontal. Pileus lateral, kidney-shaped, i-1
in. broad, pale red tau-oolour, becoming pale. Flesh watery, pale yellowish.

Gregarious, fleshy, subgelatinous, 1 line high and broad, fixed at the base
by very delicate white fibres j gills about 12, thick, veutricose.—Fries. Gills
white to stque-colour, margin sub-crenate, white, and somewhat cottony in
young specimens.—Burton.

No snbgenus includes so many dissimilar species as this. In size, structure,
the nature of the veil, and the colour of the spores, they differ exceedingly.

Pileus 1-lJ in. broad, even, smooth, when moist bay-brown, with a purplish
tinge, pale about the margin, when dry fawn-coloured or tan; gills
very veutricose, close, distinot, dirty white, with somewhat of a saffron tint.
Stem lJ-2 in. high, 1-lJ line thick, attenuated downwards, firm, smooth,
hollow, pale at the apex. Odour exactly th at of fresh cucumber.—Fries.
