Quite distinct from A. punctiformis, with which it has probably been confounded;
the asoi are cylindrical, the sporidia are longer, and the perithecia
are different iu habit and disposition, always occurring in small groups and
on the upper surface only. A. maculæformis often occurs on the under surface
of the same leaf.
