Sporidia (-0004 in.) -01 m.m. long. I t is not improbable th at this is a
naked Sphoei-w, springing from the wood beneath, and perforating the thin
hclien thallus. A single small specimen is all we have seen, and th at was
insumcient to satisfy us on this point.

The asoi are always clavate. Sporidia (-0006 in.) ^
Mr. Currey states th at the specimens of S. dioica in the Hookerian collection
are only a sub-ontioular form of S. pulvis-pyrius. The specimens on
furze, which are here referred to S. dioica, are quite different from S. pulvis-
pyrius, the perithecia are much larger, less densely gregarious, different in
shape, and with distinctly clavate asoi.
