D escription. TN the collection of Mifs Blomefield, I obferved a further variety,
which anfwered, in all refpefts, to my bird, except in having
.the fore parts of the neck, from the chin to the bread, of a glolfy
purplilh blue, and the bar on the bread of a deep red, inclining
to purple.
Erom whence this bird was recei ved is uncertain.

f-i-'HIS is very little bigger than our Creeper: length rather more
than fix inches. Bill near an inch long, and blackilh : the
head, neck, upper part of the back, fcapulars, and lefler wing
coverts, are of a bright violet, and, viewed in certain lights, appear
glofied with green, except on the fore part of the neck, which
inclines to blue : the lower part of the back, rump, and upper
tail coverts, are olive brown: bread, belly, and under tail coverts,
bright orange, paled near the vent: the lides of the body
-ire orange, with a mixture of olive : thighs, and under wing coverts
verts, grey brown: the greater coverts above are brown, with
olive edges : quills the fame, but the inner edges light alh : tail
blackilh brown, edged outwardly with olive; the tail is wedge-
lhaped,the two middle feathers are longer by one inch than the reft :
legs and claws blackilh.
Inhabits the Cape of Good Hope. The neft is faid to be con-
drufted with great art, with materials of a filky nature, and very
loofe in texture.
