Having lately seen a copy of Professor Bertoloni s monograph
of this genus, we find that our plant is his M. viicro-
carpa, which name, therefore, together with_ the following
character and synonym, must replace those given by u s :,
M. microcarpa, foliis ovato-lanceolatis acuminatis, laciniis calycinis
lanceolato-linearibus bacc^ globosa longioribus. Bertol. comm,
p. 12. t. 3. {optima.)
The plant is a native of Sardinia, where it was gathered
by Professor Moris, of Turin, and Professor Bertoloni in forms
us that it has been cultivated for a long series of years
in the Botanical Garden at Bologna.

the genus, that subsequently applied to the species by Sir
