An evergreen scandent shrub, with dark brown, angular
branches. Leaves ternately parted; segments stalked, lanceolate,
mucronulate, recurved, gashed and serrated, frequently
3-lobed, especially the terminal one, an inch long, coriaceous,
dark green, glabrous and shining, attenuated at the
base. Petioles half an inch in length, channelled, slightly
hairy, dilated at the base. Peduncles aggregate, one-flowered,
about an inch long, angular, slightly hairy, thickened at
the apex. Bractes 2, united into a cup-shaped, 2-lobed
involucrum ; lobes short, mucronulate, fringed. Sepals 4,
ovate-lanceolate, mucronulate, recurved and spreading at
the top, 3 or 5-nerved, greenish white and silky without,
marked on the inside with oblong, irregular, purple spots.
Stamens about 20. Filaments compressed, glabrous, greenish
white. Anthers oblong, white, composed of two distinct,
parallel, connate cells, opening lengthways. Ovaria numerous,
ovate, pubescent. Styles about as long as the stamens.
