Filaments compressed, fringed at the base, pale pink.
Anthers lead-coloured, united, glabrous, the lower pair
furnished at the apex with a tuft of white bristles. Ovarium
rounded, bilocular, with a prominent free apex. Placenta;
2, thick, attached to the partition. Style compressed,
white, about as long as the stamens. Stigma composed of
2, short, rounded, thick lobes, bristly behind.
A flowering plant of this very handsome new species
was sent us from Sundridge Park, Kent, the seat of Sir
Samuel Scott, Bart., by our friend Mr. Malleson, by whom
it had been raised from Chilian seeds. It appears to be
quite as hardy as the Tupa Feuillcei, and not inferior to it in
The name Tupa is applied by the Indians of Chile to a
