Root biennial. Stem 2 feet high, cylindrical, sparingly
furnished with spreading white hairs. Leaves, the lower
ones oblong, upper ones amplexicaul, cordate, acute, tinely
toothed, pubescent, an inch long. Calyx sparingly furnished
with spreading bristly hairs ; tube nearly equal throughout,
filiform, an inch and a half lo n g ; limb shorter than the
tube, the segments linear-lanceolate, mucronate, rettexed,
membranous, pale yellowish green, occasionally stained with
purple, and often combined in pairs. Petals obovate, obtuse,
sulphur-coloured, slightly crumpled a ^ crenulate at the
upper margin, about the length of the calyx. Stamens
nearly as long as the petals. Filaments nearly equal, s l id e r ,
filiform, glabrous, four times longer than the anthers. Po en
large, triangular. Ovarium cylindrical, with four depressed,
bristly angles. Style filiform, glabrous. Stigma annulate,
with four cylindrical, blunt, radiating lobes.
This which we believe to be an entirely new species was
raised by Mr. Miller, from seeds collected in Texas by the
late Mr. Drummond. Our specimens were communicated
