A perennial herb, with upright, simple, 3-sided, leafy
stems, rising to the height of 3 feet. Leaves unequally
decurrent at the base,, lanceolate, finely acuminate, or
cuspidate, doubly serrated, with the teeth terminated by a
pale white gland, perfectly glabrous on both sides, 6 or 8
inches long, 2 or 3 broad, membranous, light green above,
paler and somewhat glaucous and veiny beneath. Raceme
terminal, erect, many-flowei'ed. Pedicels filiform, glabrous,
pale purple. Bractes lanceolate, finely cuspidate, sharply
serrated, the edges convolute, longer than the pedicels.
Calyx glabrous, of a pale livid purple, the tube rounded,
turbinate, even, with 5, erect, awl-shaped, pointed, adpressed
teeth, which are minutely and bristly serrulate at the
margins. Corolla pink, an inch long, nearly glabrous, the
tube with 5 minutely rough angles, and splitting along the
upper side, the limb divided into 5, lanceolate, acuminate,
slightly keeled, unilateral segments. Stamens 5, cohering.
