ovarium, forked with glabrous branches. Stigma a minute
papillose dot. Ovula about ten to each placentæ.
This pretty little species of Nemophila, is also a native of
the Russian Colony of Ross in New California, and was
introduced last year from seeds communicated by M. de
Fischer from the Imperial Botanic Garden at St. Petersburg.
The species is very nearly related to N . insignis, but differs
in its white flowers, which are thickly dotted with dark
purple, in its corolla having the base very hairy, with the
lobes rounded and obovate, and in the seeds being smooth.
Our drawing was taken at the Chelsea Botanic Garden in
October last. The plant is annual, and will doubtless succeed
equally well in open border, as the other species of this
genus, which have been previously introduced to our collections.
For the meaning of the generic name, see fol. 329.
