* Capsule dehiscing by irregular transverse rupture. Plants very small.
Leaves nerveless. Prothallium persistent.

closely adhering.

Leaves nerveless, except in one species.

capsule, plurilobate at base, splitting on one side. Leaves more
closely areolate, minutely papillose on the back.
4. S p h s e r a n g -m m . Stemless. Capsule small; spherical, enclosed in
a cluster of imbricate very concave or carínate leaves.
6. P h a s o u m . Caulescent. Capsule pedicellate. Calyptra cuculiate.

Calyptra cuculiate. Leaves narrower, lanceolate-subulate.

mitriform, lobate or irregularly lacerate at base.

adhering. Spores remarkably large and few.
