Root a bulb-tuber, large aud solid, aud covered with
a browu shell, very similar to a lu h p or like Oruitho-
p-lnssum at No. 131. Stems 1 or 2, short aud crooked,
fleuder, smooth, cylindrical, of a reddish browu c o ^
Leaves sessile, smooth aud glossy, distichous or fanshaped,
very similar to a Tulip, oblongly lanceolate,
acute, boat-shaped, the upper side hollow or concave,
underneath sharply keeled, the points bent imvards
reticulately veined, of a pale green colour; inner ones
smallest. Flowers 5, in several specimens that we have
examined, and which appears to be the F«?®/
very much crowded. Perianthium of 6 leailets, the un-
g u 2 narrower and succulent, longer than the limb
which is membranaceous, subhastate, embracing the
filament, and tapering to a slender point ^
white colour. Stamens 6, inserted in the
limb, which encloses them; filaments very thick and
