Root perennial. Stem forked, thickly clothed with
short recurved hairs, as are the petioles and peduncles. Leaves at the root and on the lower part of the stem pe-
tiolated, deeply 5-parted, obscurely spotted, and covered on
both sides with short hairs, segments wedge-shaped, unequally
cut and toothed, reticulately veined underneath; upper leaves 3-parted, sessile, or with a very short footstalk.
Petioles a little flattened on the upper side, and
rounded on the lower, bent towards the leaf. Stipules
lanceolate, membranaceous, acute. Peduncles cylindrical,
two-flowered. Involucre of 4 or 5 unequal subulate bractes. pPaeldsicles unequal in length, a little bent upwards. Se
5, broadly lanceolate, 3-nerved, reflexed, and terminated
with a sharp subulate mucro, margins membranaceous,
fringed. Petals 5, widely obovate, 5-nerved, fringed
at the base, about half as long again as the calyx, of a light
lilac colour. Filaments 10, dilated at the base, and slightly
