calycibus reflex is, petalis superioribus venosis recurvis,
tubo nectarifero calyce subsequali aut parum breviore.
Stem frutescent, erect, much branched: branches thickly
clothed with long spreading unequal villous white hairs, as
are the stipules, petioles, peduncles, and calyx. Leaves
large, broader than long, cordate, very slightly lobed, sometimes
undulate, and toothed with unequal short teeth, rugged,
strongly and numerously nerved, the nerves branching
all over the leaf, hairy on both sides, of a pale green colour. Petioles broad, much flattened and slightly furrowed on
the upper side and convex on the lower, dilated, and thickened
at the base. Stipules broadly lanceolate, acute, broad
at the base, fringed. Peduncles cylindrical, 5 or 6-flowered. Involucre of 6 lanceolate, acute, keeled, villous bractes. Pedicles about the length of the bractes. Calyx 5-cleft, the
segments very long, lanceolate, taper-pointed, of a brownish
purple. Nectariferous tube about the length of the calyx,
or sometimes rather shorter, much flattened on both
sides, and gibbous at the base. Petals 5, the two upper ones
broadly obovate, unequal sided, lilac, with a dark patch in
the centre, and elegantly lined all over with numerous
branching red lines: lower petals oblong, rounded at the
points, lilac, marked with 2 red lines ments from the base. Fila
10, connected at the base, 7 bearing anthers. Style
purple, hairy at the base, and smooth upwards. Stigmas 5,
purple, the points reflexed.
