a lighter colour, 5-nerved, the ments nerve branching. Fi'la
10, united at the base, 7 bearing perfect anthers. Pollen orange-coloured. Style purple, quite smooth, and
naked. Stigmas 5, purple, fimbriate on the upper side, revolute.
Our drawing of this fine plant was made last Summer,
at the Nursery of Mrs. More, in the King’s-road, Chelsea,
where it was raised from seed ; it is of hybrid origin, but
we cannot speak with certainty from what sorts it has been
produced: we have named it in compliment to Miss South-
cote, of Torquay, Devon, a Lady much attached to Botany,
and to the cultivation of handsome and curious plants, and
who is well acquainted with the native plants which grow in
that neighbourhood.
Like the other plants to which this is allied, it thrives
best in a light sandy soil, or a mixture of light turfy loam,
peat, and sand, will suit it very well. Cuttings root readily,
planted in pots, in the same sort of soil, and placed in a
shady part of the Greenhouse.
