The present fine plant, which is the largest flowered of
any of the red sorts that we have yet seen; is of hybrid
origin, and was raised from seed by Mr. Smith, in the collection
of the Earl of Liverpool, at Coombe Wood, where
our drawing was made in May last; it is difficult to guess
from what sorts it had been produced, but it is related to
P. macranthon, from which one of its parents must have
originated; being of strong growth, and flowering freely, it
may be considered a great improvement in this tribe, and
will be a grand plant for growing in a large pot to make a
splendid appearance, thriving well in a rich light soil; and
cuttings root readily, planted in pots, and placed in a sheltered
situation.
