An upright strong-growing frutescent plant: branches
erect, thickly clothed with unequal spreading hairs. Leaves
cordate, slightly 5-lobed, very much undulate, and deeply
toothed with sharp rigid teeth, hairy on both sides, the margins
ciliate, strongly nerved underneath, the nerves much
branched. Petioles flat on the upper side and convex on
the lower, thickly clothed with spreading hairs. Stipules
lanceolate, broad at the base, taper-pointed, sometimes
toothed, villous, and fringed. Umbels 5 duncles to 7-flowered. Pe- long, erect, cylindrical, thickly clothed with unequal
spreading hairs, as are the pedicles, calyx, and nectariferous
tube. Involucre of 6 or 7 ovately lanceolate,
acute, concave, keeled bractes, fringed with long spreading
hairs. Pedicles long and spreading. Calyon 5-cleft, the la-
cinise lanceolate, acute, keeled at the back, the upper one
broadest, erect, the others reflexed or revolute, becoming
again erect after the expansion of the flower. Petals 5, all
obovate, spreading, the two upper ones very broad, somewhat
rugose, lilac, tinged with red, with a large dark vel-
vetty patch in the centre, stained underneath with bright
red, below which are numerous black lines, branching in all
directions: lower petals about half the breadth of the upper
ones, lilac, tinged with red, strongly nerved with 4 or 5
nerves from the base of a darker colour, branching towards
