This fine plant is a hybrid production, and was first
raised from seed at the Nursery of Mr. More, in the King’s
Road; we have not ascertained what were its real parents •
but from its broad petals, and the dark colour of its flowers,
it must have been intermediate between one of the large
purple sorts, and one of the red ones: it is a strong robust
growing plant, thriving well in any rich light soil, or a mixture
of rich turfy loam, peat, and sand, will suit it very
well, being carefiil not to overwater it in Winter.
Our drawing was taken from a plant communicated to
us by Mr. More, in full flower, in September last. Cuttings
of it strike root readily, if planted in pots, and placed
in a sheltered situation.
