have examined. Style pale-coloured,mas 5, very hairy. Stig
purple, revolute, and fimbriate on the upper side.
This splendid flowering plant is also of hybrid origin,
and was raised from seed in the superb collection of
R. H. Jenkinson, Esq., where it is known by the name
of defiance; what its real parents were, is not easily ascertained,
but its relationship with P. quercifolium and
P. ignescens may be readily traced. It is of strong growth,
and is as easily managed as any of the tribe to which it
belongs, thriving well in a light sandy soil, and producing
abundance of blossoms all the Summer. Cuttings of it
strike root freely, when planted in pots in the same sort of
soil, if placed on a shelf in the Greenhouse.
