Stem shrubby, branching; branches thickly and densely
clothed with spreading unequal white villous hairs. Leaves
between reniform and cordate, 3 to 5-lobed, more or less
undulate, the points a little reflexed, sharply toothed with
'rigid cartilaginous teeth, that are unequal in size, hairy on
both sides, and ciliate, underneath strongly nerved, the
nerves branching. Petioles flattened on the upper side, and
rounded on the lower, thickly clothed with spreading unequal
Stipules villous hairs, as are the peduncles, stipules, and bractes.,
Peduncles broadly ovate, acute, sometimes toothed,

segment ovate, acute, Petals erect; 5,the others lanceolate and
spreading, all fringed. the two upper ones obo-
vate, very unequal sided, of a reddish rose-colour, marked
from the base with numerous dark lines, that are slightly
branched, underneath strongly S-nerved, the nerves branching
: lower petals oblong, rounded at the points, of rather
a lighter colour, with a slender red line or two from the
ments base, underneath 2 or 3-nerved, but not strongly so. Fila
