utrinque molli-pubescentibus, umbellis subsexfloris pa-
niculatis, calycibus reflexis, tubo nectarifero calyce duplo
longiore.
Stem frutescent, thick and succulent, not much branched
: branches succulent, thickly clothed with soft spreading
hairs and short soft down underneath. Leaves cordate,
bluntly rounded, very much undulate, 5 to 7-lobed, the
lobes rounded, and toothed with numerous large blunt teeth,
clothed with a soft pubescence on both sides, the margins
fringed. Petioles flattened on the upper side and convex
on the lower, widened at the base and point, thickly clothed
with soft spreading hairs and short down underneath, as
are the peduncles, calyx, and nectariferous tube. Stipules
broad at the base, ovate, acute, fringed. Umbels generally
6-flowered, paniculately branched. Peduncles cylindrical. Involucre of 6 or 7 lanceolate, acute, fringed bractes. Pe- dicles about the length of the bractes. Calyx 5-cleft, the
segments lanceolate, acute, the upper one broadest, slightly
recurved at the point, the others recurved from about the
middle. Nectariferous tube about double the length of
the calyx, flattened on both sides, and gibbous at the base. Petals 5, the two upper ones cuneately obovate, unequal
sided, 2-nerved, scarlet shaded with purple, and a faint vel-
vetty spot in the centre, below which are numerous dark
lines branching all over the petals: lower petals broadly
ligulate, also 2-nerved. Filaments 10, connected at the
base, 7 bearing anthers. Style purple, hairy more than
