Stem frutescent, erect: branches rather succulent,
when young hairy, but the hairs soon wear off, they are
then smooth and glossy, and tinged with purple. Leaves
broader than long, reniformly cordate, scarcely lobed,
rounded, flat, or slightly undulate, smooth and glossy,
sharply toothed with unequal, brown, ones horny teeth: young more undulate, and hairy at the edges. Petioles flattened
and slightly furrowed on the upper side, and rounded
poun lethse lower, tinged with purple, and slightly hairy. Sti
cordate, taper-pointed and fringed, more or less keeled. Umbels several flowered. Peduncles cylindrical, slightly
hairy. Involucre of 6 or 7 bractes, which are broad at the
base, and taper to a long slender sharp point, fringed at
the margins. Pedicles scarcely as long as the bractes. tCaalslyx 5-cleft, the segments broadly lanceolate, acute. Pe
5, obovate, the two upper ones broadest and darkest,
of a reddish lilac, with a dark patch in the centre, and
several dark lines from the base, more or less branched:
lower ones of a pale lilac. Filaments 10, united at the
base, 7 bearing anthers: pollen orange-coloured. Style
purple, longer than the stamens. Stigmas 5, purple, reflexed
or revolute.
