P. eriocaulon, undique villoso, foliis cordatis quinquelobis
plicato-undulatis bullato-rugosis grandidentatis, stipulis
oblongo-lanceolatis acutis, umbellis subquadrifloris, ca-
lycibus reflexis, tubo nectarifero inaequali calyce 2-3-plo
longiore.

Every part of the plant thickly clothed with long spread-
ing villous white hairs. Stem frutescent, more or less flex-
uose, with few branches; branches long and weak. Leaves
cordate, 5-lobed, very much crumpled and undulate, ruggedly
blistered, and toothed with large unequal teeth, some
of which are bluntly rounded, others sharply pointed;
lobes large, oblate, much crumpled or plaited. Petioles
stout, dilated at the point, nearly cylindrical, or a little
flattened on the upper side. Stipules very long, variable in
form, oblong or lanceolate, acute, entire or sometimes
toothed. Peduncles cylindrical, generally four-flowered. Involucre of 6 ovate or lanceolate acute bractes. Pedicles
unequal in length, sometimes longer, and rarely shorter
than the bractes. Nectariferous tube stout, unequal in
length, generally 2 or 3 times longer than the calyx, but
sometimes scarcely longer. Calyx 5-cleft, segments ovate
or lanceolate, acute, reflexed. Petals 5, the two upper
ones broadly obovate, unequal sided, of a bright scarlet,
with a dark patch in the centre, below which are numerous
dark lines a little branched : lower petals oblong, bluntly
rounded, 3 times narrower than the upper ones, and of a
lighter colour. Filaments 10, united at the base, 7 only
bearing anthers. Style purple, longer than the stamens, Stigmas 5, purple, revolute.
