Lolowua, 1 young specimen.
Nias, 1 specimen.
Of this nice scincoid lizard two specimens are in this collection
, one young and one adult. The former has 18 lamellae
u n d er the fourth toe, which number differs from the original
description bij Boulenger; the type-specimen has 16 lamellae.
In other respects it quite agrees with that specimen; the toes
are also very unequal in length. The coloration only makes
a furthe r description necessary. Ground colour b rown , with
pale brown transverse bands on the back; a black loreal
streak , beginning at the tip of the sn o u t, where it meets that
of the other side, through the eye to the shoulder, where it
breaks up into sp o ts, which is caused by the pale transverse
bands. These spots are distinct along the flanks to the tail.
Along the sides of the tail they form again a blackish
band. Some distance below the broad dark band and spots
a series of round black spots from the ear-opening to the
hind limb. Labial sutures brownish. Limbs also with pale
bands and black lateral spots.
Total length 68 m.m. Fore limb 11 m.m.

The adult specimen has 16 lamellae u nder the fourth toe.
It shows a dark lateral band from the tip of the snout to
the end of its tail of which the posterior p a rt is broken off.
Below the dark band a series of whitish spots, bordered
towards the belly by an indistinct dark streak.

This species, described for the first time from the island of

Siaphos and has an elongate body with lim b s , that do not

the ear is covered with scales, its presence indicated by a
depression. Among the head-shields the praefrontals are small,
