D escription. O I Z E of a Goldfinch: length five inches. Bill black : the
fore part of the. head, and throat,, yellow : the hind part of
the head black, palling on each fide to the fore part of the neck,
forming a collar : the upper parts of the body are olive green :
the under yellow : legs brown.

D escription. HP H E forehead, and from thence round the eyes and cheeks,
are of a fine yellow : the reft of the head, the chin, and
fore part of the neck, of a velvety black; from thence all the
under parts are yellow : the upper parts are of a greenilh grey.
Place. The firft of thefe inhabits Carolina, the fecond Louifiana. I
am inclined to think them mere varieties, if not different only in
fex. Both are mod beautiful birds. That of Catejby is faid to
frequent the lhady places in the uninhabited parts.
