g IZ E of the male. Bill afh-eoloured : irides red : cere and
creft as the male 5 the feathers of the laft white, tipped with
black: the head, and hind part of the neck,.deep afh-colour:
the fore part of the neck, and the reft of the. plumage, red
brown: tail plain dulky black : legs brown.
The female alfo varies much. In one I obferved the neck to
be barred alternately white and black, as in fome of the males:
the lower part of the belly, and vent, white : tail plain brown.
In the Leverian Mujeum is alfo another, of a reddilh brown,,
harred all over of a cream-colour.
But the moft beautiful variety which I have yet feen, is in
my own colleftion. In this the general colour is red brown ;
paleft on the under parts: the bill the colour of yellow oker,
with a brown tip : lldes of the head covered with feathers, and
black: creft white, tipped with black: the whole of the neck-
encircled with alternate rings of black ..and white: the, tail red
brown,, crolfed with eight or nine bars of yellowilh white,
ermined with dulky lpots, and bounded above and below with
blackifti; the legs are yellowilh : claws dulky,
