1. Lycopodium (Phlegmaria) phyllanthum; caide dichotomo pendulo, foliis quadrifariis
subdistichis lanceolatis acutissimis inferne attenuatis vix petiolatis, squamis capsula duplo
longioribus superioribus vacuis foliaceis.
Caulis pedalis et ultra, dichotome divisa, crassitie pennoe corvinoe. Folia numerosa, sabquadrifariara inserta,
tamen directione suhdisticha, æqualia, iateralia patentia, inferiora et superiora erecta adpressa nitida,
subtus pallidiora, exacte lanceolata, acutissima, rigida, basì attenuata sed vix petiolata. Spicce terminales,
dicliotomæ, fere digitales, crassiiiscid®, subteretes. Squamoe erecto-patentes, cordato-ovatæ, acuminata;, ob-
tusiusculæ, capsulas excedentes, superiores longiores, foliaceæ, vacuæ.
The nearest affinity of this species is undoubtedly with L . Phlegmaria; but its leaves are more decidedly
sessile and narrower ; the spikes stouter and broader, iu consequence of the larger and more acuminated scales,
Arhich are tn-ice the length of the capsules ; the upper ones barren and hu-ger, approaching in shape and
texture to the true leaves.

We have this from Mr. Macrae, who also gathered it in Oahu. The main stalk is less scaly, aud the
partial one less winged than in the Jamaica specimens; but the foliage is exactly similar.
