We trust there can be no doubt of this being a true species of Itea. lu some points it approaches to
I. macrophylla. Wall, in Roxb. and Wall. Fl. Ind. 2. p. 419; but that is described with a half iuferior germen,
surrounded by an obscurely lobed concave flesby disc, and has lately been referred, ivith doubt, to Walbch s
new and undescribed genus, Kurrimia, among the Celastrineæ. Ti.e present does not appear to be rare at
Canton but we do not find it iu Loureiro’s Flora Cochinchensis. Mr. Lindley, some years according
to a specimen iu Dr. Hooker’s Herbarium, considered it as perhaps a species of Astranthus, but this opinion
was probably <riven more from tbe general habit of tho plant, than from au examination of the flowers.
Itea Rosmarinus, Roem. and Schult., or Cedrela Rosmarinus, Lour., has surely nothing to do with tlus genus.
