This species, inserted in Cooke’s “ Handbook,” No. 105, in
succession to Berkeley’s “ Outlines,” p. 112, must now be excluded.
The figure of Bolton (i. 17) is undoubtedly Agaricus
pithyopilus, and this is the only slender evidence on which it has
been assumed th a t Ag. difformis is found in Britain. ]

Extremely common and variable. Sometimes of a bright amethyst,
usually reddish brown; pileus 1-2 in. broad. Stem 1-6 in. long, of the
colour of the pileus. Spores globose and eohiiiulate, '00035 in. diameter.
