Of one colour, timber; pileus rather fleshy, convex, then flattened,

Biformis = ol two shapes or appearances.
Pileus thin, conic-campanulate, then expanded, smooth, shining,
ferruginous-bay, with a prominent fleshy umbo. Stem stuffed,
rigid, attenuated downwards, fibrillose-striate, paler, with an oblique
white ring (which is sometimes obsolete). Gills adnate, rather
crowded, crenulate, cinnamon.— Cooke Illus. t. 869.
In mixed woods.
Pileus 14-3 in. diam. Stem 2-4 in. long, 3-4 lines tbiok. Spores 12 X 5
y ill Herb. Berk. This is the form without manifest ring mentioned by
Fries. I t approaches a diminutive form of C. brunneus.

the white v e il; gills adnate, broad, rather distant, violet umber,
