afterwards.

Aspid'eus = like a shield, aspis.
Pileus fleshy, gibbous-convex, then depressed, viscid, zoneless,
straw-coloured, with a tomentose marginal ring, which is deciduous,
leaving the margin quite sm o o th ; gills rather thick, pallid ; milk

Pileus 5 8 in. broad. Stem 2-3 in. long, 1 in. tbick.
In tbe specimen found for tbe first time in Britain tbe pileus was pale,
and rather a dirty oobre, tbe stem darker, and longitudinally striate, but
otherwise in accord witb the description.
