method to make it thrive in this country is to plant it out
in a bed of peat soil, in rather a moist situation; or where
the ground is naturally of a boggy swamp it would succeed
well, as would many other species of this genus, the greater
part of them growing in moist situations in their native
country : those species that grow in dry rocky situations are
more easily cultivated, and will thrive well in a bed of
sandy peat soil, in any open dry situation : at Mr. Knight’s
Nursery in the King’s Road there is a large bed oiT.gran-
diflmum quite established, and thrives and flowers as well
as if growing on its native mountains.
