S vieta o-landuloso-piloso, caule paniculato-ramoso; ramis diclio-
’tomis’ f o l i i s inferioribus ovato-oblongis obtusis rugosis sinuato-
denlatis ; superioribus lanceolatis acutiuscnlis undulatis integerrimis,
filamentis undique glanduloso-pilosis.
Herbaceous. Stems erect, two or three feet high, thickly
clothed with short spreading hairs, that are tipped with small
»lands, the upper part paniculately branched, the branches
forked. Leaves at the root oblongly ovate, obtuse, very
ru»ged, sinuate with broad rounded teeth ; those on the
stem with short footstalks; lanceolate, scarcely acute, entire,
undulate, strongly nerved underneath, thickly clothed
with short hairs on both sides : upper leaves smaller, narrower
and linear. Flowers racemed, in a terminal panicle,
on longish peduncles, which are lateral, or in the forks ot
the branches. Bractes lanceolately-hnear, bluntish, thickly
covered with hairs that are tipped with small glands, as
are the peduncles, calyx,and outside of the corolla the glands
broad towards the base and tapering to a point Peduncles
cylindrical, three or four times the length of the bractes.
Calgx 5-angular, 5-cleft, the angles arate, of a dark colour,
two upper segments rather longest. Corolla large to n e l-
form the tube slender to the base, becoming bell-shaped
a n d inflated about the middle, where the stamens are inserted
; limb spreading, 5-lobed, the upper one near y douWe
the size of the others, the lobes each two-lobed, pale cream-
coloured: the tube elegantly marked on the inside on the
two lower segments with a bright bluish purple, that extends
more or less in veins over the segments, becoming stronger
in colour and more extended after the
flowers : the three upper segments marked at the base and
down the tube with a bright golden yellow, '^hich is also
strongly veined and edged with dark purple ; nerves on the
outside of the tube strong and much branched, the colour
