A beautiful tre e , from 50 ft. to 60 ft. high, with a thick bark.

beneath. Catkins axillary, terminal, elongated. Cups flattish, rough with
small scales. Nu ts roundish-ovate. A large spreading tree, 80 ft. high, with
compact wood. Common in th e mountains o f Gedé, a t elevations o f 4000

round beneath, immersed in th e cup. Cups with o u t te e th , surrounded by
circular ribs. A tre e , 70 ft. high, found in mountainous places. I t is easily
distinguished from all th e o th e rs by th e singular form o f its cup.
