lu general appearance the present plant so closely resembles N. Gmdiclumdii, that at &st sight it is difficult
to distinguish them. Cassini describes the flowers as appai'ently yeUow ; but Mr. Anderson, who coUected the
plant dm-mg Capt. King’s voyage, mentions that they are white. The genus Iriaclme, remarks De CandoUe,
hardly differs from Nassauvia, nor can I find any chai-acter by whicb to separate them.

A veiy distmct species, also found at Port Desire by J lr. Darwin. The woody gi-oup of Nassauvia, to
whicli the present plant belongs, is neaidy peculiar to South America, and to the diier parts of that continent,
especially of South Chili and Patagonia; they do not cross the Strait of JIagalhaens on the western side, but on
the east a few stretch down to Port Gregory, Staten Land, and the Falkland Islands. I have appended the
description of an allied Patagonian plant, which fonns a new genus.*
