Tliis, wliich is undoubtedly the common English “ Cleavers,” appears truly wild in Euegia, having been foimd
at three veiy remote stations, two of them scarcely visited by Europeans ; it is also a native of the Island of Chiloe,
of the Cape of Good Hope, and in North America it ranges between tbe latitudes of Port Vancouver and tbe Mississippi
Eiver.

This approaches the C. triflonm, Mich,, of the northern hemisphere, but may readily be distinguished by the
quatemate leaves and the invariably simple peduncles.

The present is the largest-flowered of any of the Antarctic Calia, aU which, except G. Aparine, appear peculiar
to the high southera latitudes.

A very distmct little species, somewhat resembling the G. saxatik, L., of Europe. It abounds in the Falkland
Islands, especially near fresh-water lagoons.

This curious bttle plant has not hitherto been described as a native of Puegia, though abundant in tbe Falkland
Islands »nd Tristan d’Acunlia, also on the west coast of America, at Valdivia, and in other parts of Chib. A
specimen, appai-ently of the same species, has been transmitted from the Andes of Columbia by Professor Jameson,
but it bears neither flower nor fruit.
