young- were not hatched. The above gentleman has kept many,
but feems to think that they gain their full plumage fooner than
the third year.

fpot between the bill and eye, the chin, upper part o f the
throat, and Tides o f the neck and vent, dufky white: forehead,
crown, lower part o f the neck before, and upper part o f the breaft,
blueifh afh-colour: lower partrof the breaft, belly, and thighs, ferruginous:
back ferruginous, marked with acute black fpots :
wing coverts black, edged with ferruginous : under wing coverts
brimftone : quills dufky, with pale ferruginous margins: tail feathers
ten in number, black; the four outer ones, half way from
the tips,’white, the outer margins black.
The above was met with in Sweden, at Maelby, a feat of Count
Carlfon, in Sodermanland*.

lou r : head, neck, back, breaft, and belly, cinereous, paleft

Place. Inhabits the Eajl Indies, and is called Gaur.— Lady Imply.

The native place of the above is uncertain j but I fufpeft it to
Chinefe Tanager, Gen. Syn. iii. p. 229. N® 23.

J M U C H fufpeft that the bird defcribed by this name is no
other than the female o f my Chinefe Finch; but as the bill in
Colonel Davies's Ipecimen feems to be that of a Manager, I fhould
think it better to range what is faid in both places under this
genus.
