: from the bill, above and beneath each eye, extends to the
hind part o f the head a band o f blaqji: belly duiky : wings and
tail black, gloffed with green : tail rounded: legs black.

little crefted : from the bafe o f the upper mandible a bare yellow
fpace, which reaches beyond the e y e : the neck, back, rump,
and belly, are grey : wing coverts and fecond quills greenifh; the
greater ones have the bafe half pale rufous, from thence to the
end black: the tail black, the ends rufous j this laft colour deepeft
on the outer feathers : the under coverts pale rufous: legs yellow.

J g IG G E R than the Englijh Blackbird, but not unlike i t : length
eleven inches. Bill an inch and a half long, orange-colour,
rather ftouter than in the Blackbird, and a trifle more bent; the
bafe befet with a few hairs: general colour of the plumage black:
beneath the eye a white d o t: wings brown : primaries bla ck:
belly and vent alh-colour: tail even at the end, two inches and a
half long : legs and claws dull yellow.
Defcribed from the drawings o f Lady Impey; faid to have come
from Perjia. It is ranked .among the finging birds.

back, brown, marked with curved black fpots: lefler wing
coverts black, chequered with white: outmoft primary black ;
the reft o f them rufty brown, tipped with alh: fore part of the
neck, bteaft, and belly, white, barred with curved black marks:
tail duiky * legs yellowilh.
Inhabits India.— Lady Impey. I t is called Cowal, from its note
imitating that word. Gorges fruit till torpid, and, after a time,
flings up the Hones. The Emperor forbids his army to keep the
field when this bird appears.
