Long-winged Goatfucker, A r fl. Zool. N® 337.
rJ 'H E fexes feem to vary in this bird, as in the European fpecies.
One o f thefe, prefented to me by Mr. Wavel, was eight inches
in length : the fpot on the chin rather paler than the reft o f the
plumage, but by no means white: no Ipot o f white on either
quills or tail feathers, by which I judge it to be the female, of
which that defcribed by me is the male.
It fhould feem to be the fame with the Mojcbito Hawk of Hud-
fon’sBay, but Mr. Hutchins's manufcript makes it nine inches and
a half in length, twenty-three inches in breadth, and an ounce and
three quarters when the bowels are taken out. It is known at
Hudfon’s Bay by the name o f Payjk, or Peefk, from the note, and is
there migratory : faid to be very numerous in the interior parts,
and feeds on mujkitoes and flies.

Sharp.tailed Goatfucker, 'Gen. Syn. iv. p, 6oO. N® 13.
•T PH E circumftance o f the tail feathers of this bird being lharp
at the ends, was omitted in the defcription given o f it in the
Synopfts. The ftiafts of each feather are bare o f webs at the tips,
as in the Thorn-tai.led Warbler* b u t ihorter, as in the Aculeated
Swallow f .
Bujfon obferves, that birds o f this genus mix frequently with the
Bats-, which is not Angular, fince their appearance o f mornings
and evenings is at the fame hours, and the food o f both precifely
alike. I well remember meeting with the bodies o f Cockchafers f
in the ftomach of the Horfe-Jhoe Bat 1 ; and, on further enquiry,
found that the animal ate the body of that infeft only, rejecting
the other parts of i t ; as quantities o f heads, corfelets, and wings,
were found ftrewed on the ground about its haunts.
