black: irides yellowifh: top o f the head cinereous grey :
neck and breaft dirty grey : belly and thighs the fame, but paler:
back, and wing coverts, rufous: rump cinereous g re y: vent rufous
: fecond quills greenilh black 5 prime ones black j on the
firft two white fpots, one of them within, the other without: tail
and legs black.

^JpHIS is met with in Ruffta-, but only from the fouthern parts
to the neighbourhood o f the Irtijh * : builds in the holes of
old oaks, about JVoronefch. Screams without ceafing. It is ob-
ferved never to be feen on the ground ^ The birch-tree, however,
feems to be its favourite habitation, and in which it moft
frequently builds the neft, laying as far as five eggs, o f a clear
green, fprinkled with innumerable dark fpecks.

T E N G T H fixteen- inches. Bill broad and ftout, and'a little
curved at the tip : noftrils froall, placed on the fore part o f a
long depreffion at the bafe, covered by a membrane : at the bafe
o f the bill a few flight briftl'es: general colour o f the plumage
black : tail feven inches in length: legs black.
I met with the above preferved in fpirits in the Britijh Mufeum.
