^ J 'H IS j no doubt, inhabits China, as well as the Cape of Good
Hope, as I met with a drawing o f one among other Chinefe-
birds. The name given to it was Tye-tzoy. It likewife is a native
o f India, as I have feen it painted in three different colleftions
o f drawings from thence.

Further variety o f this fpecies is faid to inhabit New Zealand.
This has the erown o f the head greenilh blackj a
ftreafc over the eyes, whitifh before, greenilh behind : round the
neck a white collar : back dulky bla ck: wing coverts pale green,
with yellowifh edges: quills and tail black, edged with blue : the
under parts o f the body whitilh, tinged with dulky yellow on the
bread : vent and under wing coverts very pale yellow. This is
known at New Zealand by the name o f Poopoo, wbouroo roa.
The Kingsfijher at Otaheite and the Friendly JJles is called
Koato-o-oo *.

J ^ E N G T H e le v e n inches. Bill four inches, colour a deep red:
the head and all the upper parts of the body deep blue : wing
coverts dulky b la ck : quills the fame, with the inner webs o f
many white, and the tips o f all b la ck: the under parts o f the body
are white, running back at the lower part o f the neck like a cref-
c e n t : legs black.
I met with this in the colleftion of the late Mr. Boddam. It
appeared to me as a variety o f my Black-capped Kingsfijher, if not
o f a different fex.

' J ’H I S is found only in the temperate parts o f Rujfia and Sibi-
r ia: not common in Denmark. A fpeeimen I met with from
China was precifely the fame, though lefs than ours: the name
given it was Ju-loang. I have feen it alfo exadtly painted in
collections o f drawings from India.
