parts o f the body green ; the under white : on the middle of the

with b la ck: legs pale red.

Perjia. Thdbill and legs in thole parts are found to be black in
young birds *. The eggs are larger than thofe o f a Jackdaw,
o f a cinereous white, marked with irregular dulky blotches f .

mandible (harp-edged : hides rufous yellow : the feathers round
the bale o f the bill, the throat, and fore part o f the neck, are
black : the top o f the head blueifh alh-colour, the feathers long
enough to form a creft : between the black and afh-colour on the
forehead are a few white feathers: on the ears a large patch o f
white : the colour o f the body, wing coverts, and tail, brownifli
a(h-colour: the quills blackiih, edged with grey: tail four inches
long, a trifle rounded in (hape, and rather curves downward:
legs long, of a pale brown: hind claw large, and much incurvated.
Inhabits China. Common at Canton. Seen in flocks in Deatds ~ P l a c e ,
IJland, Wampoo River, picking up food on the mud of the (hore.
