Our drawing and description were taken from a fine
plant communicated to us by Sir R. C. Hoare, from
his superb collection. It is a hybrid production and
related to P. purpureum, but differs in several particulars
; and as it is of smallish growth and an abundant
bloomer, it makes a pleasing variety. We have seen
it in full bloom in the middle of winter, at which time
its flowers were as fine or finer than in summer. It
succeeds well in a mixture of turfy loam and peat; and
cuttings soon strike root if planted in pots in the same
kind of soil, and placed in a shady part of the greenhouse.
