C A M P A N U L A . Calyx 5-fidus, sinubus sæpè appendicibus obtectis.
Corolla apice 5-loba, vel 5-fida, sæpiùs campanulata. Stamina 5, libera :
filamentis basi latis et membranaceis. Stylus in alabastro pilis collectoribus
(excepta imâ basi) tectus. Stigmata 3-5, filiformia. Ovarium omnino in-
ferum, 3-5-loculare. Capsula valvis 3-5, lateraliter dehiscens. Semina sæpiùs
ovata, complanata, interdum ovoidea et tunc minima.— H erbæ perennes,
rarius biennes vel annuæ, nunc immiles et cæspitantes, nunc contrà ‘2-3-peda-
les erectæ et multifioræ. Folia radicalia à caulinis sæpissimè diversa nempè
majora, longiùs petiolata et obtusa. Yloves plerumquè pedunculati, racemosi,
rariùs spicati vel glomerati, prò ordine majusculi, coerulei vel ( in eàdem specie

Roots filiform, creeping, throwing up innumerabie short
stems, aii terminated by a singie flower. Stems about a span
high, erect, or somewhat flexuose, siender, a iittie anguiar,
and siightiy ciothed with ciose pressed hairs, giossy, ieafy
above haif way up. Leaves sessiie, or on very short footstaiks,
ovate, attenuated towards the base, more or iess crenate,
